This year’s admissions period at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) concluded with significant growth. A total of 13,958 applications were submitted to the university, of which 9,056 met the admission requirements. Compared with last year, the number of eligible applications increased by 17.1%.
A total of 6,668 eligible applications were submitted for undergraduate studies, nearly one-fifth more than last year (+18.5%). Master's programmes received 2,388 eligible applications, representing a 13.1% increase compared with the previous year.
According to TalTech Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Ingrid Pappel, this year’s results show that young people are making conscious choices to study fields that will have a long-term impact on the future. “For us, the most important indicator is the more than 17% increase in eligible applications, which reflects strong interest in high-quality technology education. We are especially pleased by the continued growth in engineering and IT fields, as well as the positive reception of our new study programmes. This gives us confidence that a new generation of top specialists is emerging in areas that are vital for Estonia,” said Pappel.
Technology and engineering continue to attract the greatest interest. Undergraduate engineering programmes received 3,069 eligible applications (+26.7%), IT programmes 1,341 (+10.8%), natural sciences 720 (+16.7%), business and economics 1,231 (+8.9%), and the Estonian Maritime Academy 307 (+25.3%).
At the master's level, the School of Business and Governance experienced the largest increase, receiving 852 applications (+24.7%). Interest in engineering programmes also grew by 15.8%, IT by 3.4%, and the Estonian Maritime Academy by 2.9%. Applications to natural sciences programmes declined slightly (-6.6%).
The most popular undergraduate programme this year was once again Structural Engineering and Construction Management, which received 661 applications. It was followed by Business (480), Electrical Power Engineering and Mechatronics (394), Logistics and Mobility Engineering (365), Cyber Security Engineering (341), Integrated Technologies (313), IT Systems Development (302) and Applied Chemistry and Gene Technology (299).
Among master's programmes, the most popular were Artificial Intelligence in Business (141 applications), Public Administration and Innovation (131), Human Resource Management (128), Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (124), Management and Marketing (111), and Cyber Security (100).
Several programmes launched this year immediately ranked among the most popular. The new undergraduate programme in Logistics and Mobility became the fourth most popular undergraduate programme in its very first year, while the new master's programme in Artificial Intelligence in Business attracted the highest level of interest among newly introduced programmes.
During the coming week, entrance examinations will be held for programmes that require them. Study places will also continue to be offered to applicants who have exceeded the required admission threshold. Admitted students must confirm their acceptance by 15 July.
Tallinn University of Technology is Estonia’s only technological university, offering top-level education in engineering, information technology, natural sciences, business, and maritime studies. This year, 2,050 students graduated from TalTech, including 666 from the School of Information Technologies, 598 from the School of Engineering, 576 from the School of Business and Governance, 127 from the School of Science, and 83 from the Estonian Maritime Academy.
