Aim of the course:
The training is designed for PhD students and early-stage researchers seeking to expand their knowledge on current challenges and solutions in technological opportunities for shipping decarbonization.
Target group:
The course is intended for doctoral students and young researchers in maritime studies.
Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of maritime technolgogies and a relevant background are recommended.
Topics:
The course consists of the following main components:
- Overview of the decarbonization opportunitiess
- Alternative fuels and energy sources
- Maritime electrification
- Winter navigation challenges
- Training on research funding opportunities and proposal writing
- Excursions and networking activites with industry experts
Study results:
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will obtain:
- An overview of the technological possiblities in maritime decarbonization
- Understanding of the effect of ice going vessel requirements to decarbonization
- Understanding of the possibilities and challenges in maritime electrificaiton
- Ability to assess the practical effects of transformation to alternative fuels
Assessment criteria:
Successful completion requires attendance of at least 90% of the sessions and contribution to group activities.
