Join us in celebrating Nordic Literature Week: Rector Tiit Land and writer Jan Kaus read from Johannes Anyuru’s novel They Will Drown in Their Mothers’ Tears (De kommer att drunkna i sina mödrars tårar, 2019). Rector Land will read in Swedish, and writer Kaus in Estonian.

This is a story about today’s world, hope and hopelessness, friendship and betrayal. It depicts a dystopian apartheid society where European values have hardened into totalitarian beliefs, while also telling the story of a brave attempt to imagine alternatives to a terrifying future.

Don’t miss it! Plan your lunch break around this special reading and enjoy some great Nordic literature with your meal on 10 November!

A pop-up library will be there too, with Nordic books available to borrow. You’ll also find a themed display at the library’s temporary service area.

Nordic Literature Week takes place from 9 to 15 November under the auspices of the Nordic Council of Ministers. Readings will be held in schools and libraries across Scandinavia and the Baltic countries, as well as at Nordic institutions around the world. This year’s theme is democracy in the Nordic region. The week aims to share Nordic literature, inspire a love of reading, and encourage tolerance and cooperation across different fields.
