We are pleased to invite all interested TalTech academic staff and PHd students to a talk by Prof.Maria O’Sullivan from Deakin University on March 13th at 14:00-15:00, room SOC - 310

Prof.O’Sullivan will discuss her most recent article on the topic of Automated Refugee Decision-making in Temporary Protection cases, exploring the critical role of AI in refugee status-decision making. The talk will be particularly relevant to those interested in the current and future applications of AI and other forms of technologically driven automated decision-making in the context of humanitarian assistance as well as those interested in legal and ethical considerations and implications on societal questions. The talk will be followed by a free form discussion and Q&A.


About the Speaker

Maria O’Sullivan is an Associate Professor at Deakin Law School, a member of the Deakin Cyber Research and Innovation Centr, Theme Lead of the Protection from technology-based harms stream of the Centre for Law as Protection and a member of the Law, Health and Society Research Unit at Deaking Law School.


In preparation for her talk, Prof.O’Sullivan has kindly shared a draft of her journal chapter „The Benefits and Risks of Automating Refugee Status Decision-Making: Its Potential Use for Group-based Categorisations“.
