We are pleased to invite all interested to an open guest seminar by Dr. Karin Brodén, researcher and senior lecturer at the Department of Informatics, Umeå University. The seminar takes place on Monday, 19 October, 11:00–12:00, at TalTech IT College, room ICO-219, and on MS Teams.
Introducing digital technology does not automatically create benefits. The value actually realised depends on organisational digital competence, working conditions and professional practices, particularly in health and social care. Karin Brodén will present her research on organisational digital competence and value creation from digital technologies in the public sector. Her colleagues from Umeå University, Patrik Björnfot and Anders Lundström, will then join online to briefly present their research in robotics.
The session is interactive. After the presentations, we will discuss the following questions:
- What enables or prevents organisations from creating value from digital technologies?
- How can we better understand and assess the organisational capabilities needed for successful digital transformation?
- What research questions could benefit from combining our different disciplinary perspectives?
The seminar ends with an open discussion on shared research interests and opportunities for future collaboration.

About the speaker: Karin Brodén is a researcher and senior lecturer in Informatics at Umeå University. Her research focuses on digital transformation, organisational digital competence, and value creation from digital technologies and data in public-sector organisations, particularly within health and social care. Before entering academia, she worked in the IT industry with responsibility for mission-critical information systems across the Nordic and Baltic countries.
