"Fulbright Program and Personal Experience as a Woman in a STEM field"
Speaker: Julia Garrard, Indiana University (IU), Bloomington, Fulbrighter

Julia Garrard graduated in 2022 from Indiana University (IU) Bloomington with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with Honors and a specialization in Security and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Germanic Studies with a minor in Mathematics. She has also recently been selected as a Fulbright Scholar to Estonia. The Fulbright Program, funded through an annual appropriation made by the U.S. Congress to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program and is supported by the people of the United States and partner countries around the world.

In February 2023, Julia completed a postgraduate internship at NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) in The Hague, Netherlands through the NATO Internship Programme, where she was a Research Scientist focused on 5G Security. In March 2023, Julia started her Fulbright Program in Estonia, where she is conducting research that focuses on 5G security and maritime cybersecurity at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech).

While attending university, Julia participated in a Department of Defense (DoD) co-op program for college students and worked on various research and development projects in the Navy’s Cybersecurity Division. In her free time, Julia was also involved in various clubs and activities, including the Center of Excellence for Women in Technology (CEWiT) as a Student Researcher, Women in Computing, and Women in Math clubs.

Julia hopes her participation in this webinar can excite young people, especially young women, about STEM-related careers.

The webinar is organised by Tallinn University of Technology in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Estonia in the framework of the "Roadmap for Inclusive Cybersecurity" project.
