Interlibrary loan for TalTech library users

Interlibrary loan is a service to provide for library users books and article copies (electronical document delivery) that are not held by TalTech Library or are electronically unavailable. Books and article copies can be requested from other libraries in Estonia (excl. Tallinn) and abroad. 
NB! The books can be used in the reading rooms of our library only. The copies of articles do not have to be returned; the user can keep them.

Make sure that the book/journal is not available at the university library by checking online catalogue ESTER and the library search portal PRIMO.

You can request:
- books
- copies of articles

You cannot request:
- journals and magazines
- encyclopedias, dictionaries
- fiction
- dissertations and other manuscript materials

- the online form (for library users)
- e-mail ill@lib.taltech.ee
 

  • A valid library card is required in order to request an interlibrary loan.

  • Interlibrary loans take time, so make sure to place your requests well in advance.

  • Library cannot guarantee delivery of ILL materials for a certain date.

  • Cancellation is not possible.

  • When the material arrives, the user is informed by an e-mail or by phone.

  • Loan period for ILL material is controlled by the library that owns this material and is usually 2-4 weeks. Please respect the due date. 

Prices and how to pay:

The ILL service is a paid service. It is possible to pay in cash, by debit card or request an invoice. Charges for books and article copies depend on the delivery within Estonia or from outside.

Interlibrary loan for the libraries 

Materials in TalTech Library are sent to other libraries in Estonia (excl. Tallinn) and abroad on their request.  Libraries can submit the request by online form (for libraries) or by e-mail: ill@lib.taltech.ee.

Before submitting the request, please check the availability of the item in the online catalogue ESTER and the library search portal PRIMO.

TalTech library supplies:
- books
- copies of articles

The library will bear the expenses for sending the originals, but the receiver is responsible for the returning costs. The copies of articles are free of charge and can be ordered as electronic copies (PDF). If the book is loaned out, we will put a hold on it for you.

The loan period of the item is between 2-4 weeks. Libraries are obliged to respect the time limit.

We do not loan:
- newspapers, journals and other large format publications
- manuscripts and other similar copyrighted materials (e.g. bachelor's theses)
- materials in the archive collection
- single copies of books in the reference collection
- single copies of frequently used books

For foreign country libraries: we prefer payment in IFLA vouchers.
