“Last week was an extremely successful one for the field of education at TalTech, as it saw the approval of the long-awaited and indeed vital measures and budgets of the IT and Engineering Academy for the next three years,” explained Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Hendrik Voll. The university’s budget for these measures up to 2026 comes to nearly 12 million euros. This is in addition to the funding for the 2026-2029 period, the amount of which will become clear following the mid-term review in 2026.
Within the IT Academy’s higher education measure the university has a budget of 4,017,690 euros. Its main activities therein are increasing the number of student applicants, modernising teaching, developing curricula, boosting teaching capacity, supporting academic staff and reducing drop-out rates, which is to say increasing the graduation rate.
More specifically, the IT Academy aims to raise awareness and interest in technical disciplines and career opportunities among young people (especially those in primary, secondary and vocational education), as well as to increase the number of ICT students, motivate the most successful post-graduate students to pursue PhDs in ICT, ensure academic continuity in the IT field and increase the proportion of women in the first stage of higher education.
In the Engineering Academy, the university’s total budget for the 2023-2026 period is 7,839,000 euros. A more detailed overview of the activities of the academy will appear in the newsletter in the near future.
