On July 11 - 12, 2023, the ADVANCES project group meeting took place in Liechtenstein, where the project outcomes so far were discussed, and plans were made for the activities to be carried out until the end of the project. It was also agreed to hold the next meeting in September in Norway.

ADVANCES kohtumine Liechtensteinis
ADVANCES project meeting in Liechtenstein

The ADVANCES project (Advancing Human Performance in Cybersecurity) focuses on human performance improvement, as the human error is the leading cause of data and security breaches. This interdisciplinary project brings together technology and human aspects and it will create innovative training methods and environments to overcome the rising security problems.

All participants of the meeting took part in an experiment conducted by the University of Liechtenstein. The purpose of the experiment is to measure the stress level of people in a stressful situation, for example in an exam. Heart rate belts were used in the experiment to measure the participants' heart rate. Among other things, it enables to assess the increase of the level of stress while performing various cyber security tasks.

In October, the TalTech Centre for Digital Forensics and Cyber Security, together with the partners, will organise a seminar presenting the project and its results, where, among other topics, it is hoped to present the results of the experiment conducted in Liechtenstein. The exact date of the seminar will be announced in August. As the project focuses on human psychology in technology, including cyber security, the outcomes of the project may be of interest to both psychologists and cyber security companies.

The project is led by Vilnius University and is financed by EEA Grants under the Baltic Research Programme. In addition to Tallinn University of Technology, the partners from the Baltic States are the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences and Riga Technical University in Latvia, and from donor countries the University of Liechtenstein, Østfold University College in Norway and the Norwegian University of Technology and Science.
