Professor Alvar Soesoo of the Department of Geology of Tallinn University of Technology received the Order of the White Star, 4th Class from President Kersti Kaljulaid.
Alvar Soesoo is a geologist and a professor working for Tallinn University of Technology. He was longterm director of the Department of Geology. He taught earth sciences at Tallinn University of Technology and modernised the research infrastructure of the institute. Alvar Soesoo played a key role in re-launching the state geological survey and is one of the organisers of the earth sciences olympiad in Estonia.
On the eve of the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, President Kersti Kaljulaid presented state decorations to 152 people whose commitment to their work and community has improved life in Estonia.
The Order of the White Star is awarded to persons working for the state or local government, as well as in the recognition of services and achievements in the field of economy, education, science, culture, or sports or for other public services.
