‘I am glad to see that it is possible to come up with such cool and real ideas in just 24 hours,’ said Rasmus Kalep, Project Manager of the Startup Centre of TalTech. The climate hackathon, organised in cooperation between TalTech and Cleantech Estonia, was won by the team Dottyland, who came up with a platform to monitor the environmental footprint of themselves as well as their employees. However, the TalTech team received a special prize for solving the urban planning challenge – the opportunity to participate in the Beamline Accelerator programme.

‘Those teams that already had an idea in mind were able to develop it effectively with the help of mentors,’ Kalep explained. ‘Climate issues are important, and I think that these kinds of brainstorming events are the best place to come up with multifaceted solutions.’
The hackathon rewarded the three most outstanding ideas that the judges deemed to have the best business model and social impact.
Climathon 2023 winners:

-
Dottyland – a platform for tracking the environmental footprint of an individual or employee.
-
Waste Warriors – an app to reduce food waste in partnership with cafés, restaurants, and grocery stores.
-
Rattarong – a bike rental service for school trips or for tourists to make cycling more accessible.
The City of Tallinn set up a prize fund of €1,000, and the top contestants received tickets to both NEXPO Tallinn and sTARTUp Day to establish valuable contacts and gather ideas. ‘I am looking forward to seeing when the ideas will receive support so that we can start using them in everyday life. Thank you to all participants and partners,’ said Kalep.
