Tallinn University of Technology

Early February was a very special time for our university museum, with the Estonian Museum Association handing out the Estonian Museum Awards in cooperation with the Estonian Heritage Board and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia. TalTech’s museum took part in the conference and gala event held as part of the awards, as it was one of the three nominees for the title of Exhibition of the Year.

With its exhibition ‘Ain Toim: Engineering Art’, the museum found itself in distinguished company: its fellow nominees were the Estonian National Museum for the exhibition ‘Right Body, Wrong Body?’ and KUMU for the exhibition ‘Art in the Age of the Anthropocene’.

The award ultimately went to KUMU, but making the top three in a field of 19 long-listed nominees is a win in itself.

“It was an enormous honour to be nominated for the award alongside two undisputed giants of the Estonian museum scene,” said Kadri Kallaste, the director of the TalTech Museum. “People at the conference and gala had a lot of nice things to say about us and showed a lot of interest in the museum. We realised that it’s not the size of your team that’s most important – although it does play a part – but a well-timed, well-thought-out and well-executed concept. Ain Toim’s exhibition is definitely that.”

Congratulations to the museum on their achievement!
