MariCybERA was delighted to host six students from The Citadel (https://www.citadel.edu/), the Military College of South Carolina, on July 23rd. Accompanied by their lecturer, Dr. Terry Mays from the Department of Political Science, the students attended insightful lectures and experienced hands-on activities that made for an enriching day.
The students attended lectures focusing on Cyber Security and Maritime by Prof. Sanja Bauk, and Ship Systems and Cyber Security by Prof. Pentti Kujala. The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly steering ships Vega and Linda using the Estonian Maritime Academy's state-of-the-art ship bridge simulator, expertly guided by Olev Tõnismaa.
All lectures and activities were part of the two courses of the Citadel Summer School program (8.-27.07) about: Estonian Foreign and Security Policy with Russia and the Baltic Sea Region, and Estonian Cyber Security Issues.
The program offered students the opportunity to visit also various significant sites, including:
- NATO Centre of Excellence
- A former KGB post
- Estonia's ethnic Russian town of Narva and the Russian border (remaining in Estonia)
- Tour of the old city of Tallinn and other areas of interest in the capital
- An Estonian weapons range for familiarization with Soviet-era weapons
It was a truly enriching and interesting course day at the Citadel Summer School. A big thank you to all professors, instructors and participants for the memorable day!
