A study programme "Natural resources and engineering", organized by the Department of Geology for 9th-12th grade students, took place from 19.-22. October. The programme introduced the students to natural resources, mining, processing the raw materials into a finished product, and how manage waste.
A four day course showed the students the whole value chain of natural resources. The first day concentrated on geology and mining, second day taught how a raw material is turned into a product and which technologies are used to do so. The third day showed the students innovative ways for waste management and a field trip to two companies that deal with giving a new life into plastic and electronical waste. The last day concentrated on the future with various automatics works shops together with programming Legos. Furthermore, work place safety was practiced through VR, and discussion on circular economy's importance was had with many practical tasks.
