On June 12, the Department of Energy Technology hosted the Norwegian ambassador to Estonia, Mr. Marius Dirdal. Professor Alar Konist and the ambassador discussed cooperation opportunities in the field of research and development of carbon capture and storage (CCS). Professor Oliver Järvik introduced the ambassador to the research of the Fuel and Air Emissions Analysis Research and Experimental Laboratory on the possibilities of refining CO2 into chemicals and e-fuels.

In Europe, Norway is at the forefront of putting CO2 capture and storage technologies into practice - the world's first open-access carbon dioxide terminal will be built in the western part of the country near Bergen, which will allow emitters who have captured their CO2 emissions to transfer it to safe storage.
The adoption of carbon dioxide sequestration, transport and storage technologies is also crucial for Estonia - it would enable companies to reduce emissions from the use of fossil fuels.
