The Director General of the European Space Agency (ESA), Josef Aschbacher, will visit Estonia to deliver a public lecture on 4 September from 14:00 to 15:30 at TalTech’s School of Business and Governance, auditorium SOC-209.

Aschbacher oversees a €7 billion budget and 5,500 staff across Europe. With more than 35 years of experience in the space sector, the Austrian scientist has held senior roles at ESA, the European Commission, the Austrian Space Agency and academic institutions in both Europe and Asia. He was also a driving force behind Copernicus, one of the world’s most successful Earth observation programmes.

In Tallinn, Aschbacher will discuss some of the key challenges facing the space sector today – from Europe’s strategic autonomy to the resilience and security of ESA programmes. He will highlight Estonia’s achievements and its growing role in the European space industry.

The event will also explore future cooperation – showing how Estonian companies, researchers and engineers can collaborate with ESA to develop next-generation space technologies and deliver innovations that benefiits both science and society.
