On August 26, the Tallinn University of Technology Museum will open the traveling exhibition "German Ecodesign Award 2023", which will present the best works of the 2023 German Ecodesign Competition.
Since 2012, the German Ecodesign Award is carried out annually by the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUV) and the German Environment Agency (UBA) in cooperation with the International Design Center Berlin (IDZ). The nominees and winners of 2023 will be introduced at the exhibition opened in the lobby of the Faculty of Economics building of Tallinn University of Technology (Akadeemia tee 3, Tallinn). The nominees and winners from 2023 are presented in this exhibition.
Ecodesign is good design that benefits people and the environment alike. Beyond the creation and production of material goods, this is also about the environmentally sound and user-oriented design of services and systems. Our world is in large part humanmade. Objects and processes are not products of chance, but are planned, designed and manufactured. This process typically requires the consumption of resources and frequently creates waste and pollutants that affect our health and environment.
The exhibition presents all nominees and winners of the German Ecodesign Award 2023. From 360 submissions, the interdisciplinary jury selected the most outstanding from an ecological and design perspective; around 150 submissions passed the preselection in total. In 2023, the jury nominated a total of 26 submissions and awarded 12 with the German Ecodesign Award. The jury of the competition gave equal consideration to ecological and design aspects. Projects from all sectors and areas of design can be submitted in the four competition categories of Product, Service, Concept and Young Talent.
