FinTech or financial technology aims to develop technologies that would improve financial performance. As a result of the survey, a summary report “FinTech Survey Estonia 2021” will be completed to provide an opportunity to better understand the Estonian FinTech sector and contribute more to the development of the field.

The study focuses on the characteristics of companies, the current situation in the sector, the main problems, and future prospects, including the effects of COVID-19. In addition, a number of changes have been made to this study, and the factors related to establishing a company and the choice of its location will be discussed in more detail.

The sample has been selected based on EBA international definition, according to which FinTechs are involved either in the provision of financial services or supporting the provision of innovative services. The survey includes only the legal entities that have been registered in Estonia. Branches and legal entities with an Estonian background registered elsewhere have been excluded.

The survey report, which is a follow-up to the 2019 survey, is expected to be completed in June 2021.
