On 2nd of February, 2024 the final event of the competition „Science in 3 minutes“ took place at the Estonian Academy of Sciences. Inge Varik, a 3rd year PhD student from the reproductive biology group, got into the finals of this competition with her speech „The secrets of the ovary“. In her speech, Inge introduced the idea about how her research regarding intercellular communication within the ovary could help develop better methods to diagnose infertility and improve fertility treatment in the future. Out of 16 finalists, the jury chose Inge as one of the top 5 presenters. This is a great achievement for Inge, for the reproductive biology research group but also for Taltech. The winners of the competition were awarded with an opportunity to participate at EuroScience Open Forum in Poland. As part of this competition, Inge introduced her scientific work in ERR Novaator (in Estonian):

In Inge’s opinion this competition offered an incredible opportunity to learn how to present her scientific work clearly to others and it definitely is one of the stepping stones for her further scientific career. Before the final event took place, the participants learned to perform in front of the camera, control performance anxiety, and were given tips and tricks for writing a popular science article. Therefore, this competition provided an excellent opportunity to perfect presentation skills which are incredibly useful for presentations at future scientific conferences. For Inge, the best part of the competition was getting to know other PhD students and becoming friends with the Estonian Academy of Sciences.

Sincere congratulations to Inge from our whole group!
