Thirty young officials from Moldova are visiting Estonia on 6–10 October to learn about Estonia’s smart digital solutions. The visit also highlights Estonia’s experience as a member of the European Union across various fields.
During the visit, the group will meet with several Estonian institutions and attend lectures at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech). The programme focuses on how Estonia built its e-state and how the country operates as part of the EU.
This is the first visit since Moldova’s parliamentary elections, in which voters affirmed the country’s path toward the European Union. Learning from Estonia’s experience will support Moldova in moving forward with its EU accession process.
“The Estonian experience shows how smart digital solutions and citizen-centric governance go hand in hand. It is important to us that this knowledge reaches Moldova to help shape the new generation of officials who will drive reforms. Together with our Swedish partners, we can act as a bridge connecting Moldova to European standards and international cooperation, while offering both inspiration and practical solutions,” said Eva-Maria Liimets, Head of Democracy and Rule of Law at ESTDEV.
Dr. Külli Taro, from TalTech’s Ragnar Nurkse Department of Innovation and Governance, added: “Young Moldovan officials have come to Estonia to learn, but they also bring their own experience, questions and a vision for the future. Such two-way learning is at the heart of European cooperation. Estonia’s story may inspire them, and we are equally inspired by their dedication to building a more transparent, resilient and citizen-centric country.”
The project is supported by ESTDEV – the Estonian Centre for International Development.
ESTDEV is a state foundation that organizes and coordinates Estonia’s participation in international development cooperation and implements projects in countries across the European Union’s Eastern Neighbourhood and in Africa. The Centre’s aim is to strengthen Estonia’s contribution to global security and sustainable development, and to support democracy, the rule of law, education, e-governance and cybersecurity in partner countries.
