This summer, Inge Varik, a PhD student from the reproductive biology research group, visited the European Society for Human Reproduction (ESHRE) annual conference in Copenhagen which was attended by more than 10 000 people.
Inge’s scientific poster was also selected for an oral presentation which was a great opportunity to introduce the scientific results of Agne Velthut-Meikas’ research group to a larger audience. It seems that the presentation peaked a lot of people’s interest, since a long queue formed behind the microphone for questions.
At the conference, it was possible to get acquainted with specialists from various fields – embryologists, medical professionals, and researchers, creating an ideal environment for establishing new partnerships and contacts. According to Inge, it was exhilarating to listen to presentations on topics that are not directly related to her doctoral thesis project: „The goal of the doctoral thesis is to find answers to very specific questions in quite a narrow topic. However, attending a conference provides an excellent opportunity to expand your scientific knowledge outside of your research projects, which in turn could lead to new ideas and collaborations. For example, presentations on the topics of embryo development, reproductive diseases, artificial intelligence and ethics were presented at ESHRE conference.“
