The idea to renew the lobby started almost a year ago during a discussion between the marketing and real estate department. Different events bring many partners and guests to the lobby of the university and it is important what greets them there. “The lobby of the main building has not been changed much over the course of the last 50 years. It has preserved almost in its original form, intact from trends, forming an architectural and aesthetic whole. Nevertheless, the area needed some refreshment and new ideas,“ commented Aivar Uutar, TalTech's director for facilities.

Uutar explained that the original design of the lobby has been treated with respect for historical details - the wardrobe counter and terrazzo floor have been preserved, while the new colorful furnishings bring freshness to the interior.

As a completely new element, a cosy learning and leisure area was created. The lobby also hosts a self-service wardrobe for 600, and 70 lockers.

In addition, the lobby now has a new university gift shop, a place where everyone can find the necessary items for real TalTech fans. The product range includes trendy products for students, dignified gifts for partners and practical items for employees.

„I’m very glad that the TalTech’s brand has been accepted so well, which is shown by the increased turnover of the gift shop. Our branded products and gifts do not only represent the university in Estonia, but in all different parts of the world. Our gift shop is one of our signature elements and the new lobby is the perfect location for it,“ said Joosep Kaasik, the director for administration of the rector’s office.

The product range offered by the gift shop is wide and is continuously growing. It will soon sell the keepsakes of the TalTech sports club, the innovation and business centre Mektory, the TalTech Publishing and other units of the university.

The gift shop is opened on workdays from 10 AM to 5 PM.

The project of the lobby was designed by Projekt Kuubis OÜ. Interior architects: Mari-Liis Palts, Kaarin Kokk; architect: Eela Samblik.
