Tallinn University of Technology

One of the scholarship providers of the Development Fund of TalTech this spring is CF&S Estonia, supporting students with two scholarships: bachelor’s students can receive 1500 euros and master’s students 2000 euros. Board member and sales director of CF&S Estonia Hannes Mänd has been in the logistics business for over 20 years. We asked him why CF&S decided to offer scholarships this year.

CF&S

CF&S Estonia is providing scholarships to students of TalTech for the first time this spring. Why did you decide to do it?

CF&S has been in business for 25 years, clearly becoming one of the strongest logistics companies based on Estonian capital within that period. As of today, we have expanded to ten countries. Behind our success are stable practices which have evolved over our years of operation. We decided to share our experience in order to contribute to the development of logistics. We’re trying to create change and show young people that logistics can be as cool and sexy as the IT sector, which most of today’s youth are pursuing. Working with young people creates interesting changes, so we need to invest in the people of tomorrow.

This spring, you are offering two scholarships, one to a bachelor’s and the other to a master’s student. Which students are you inviting to apply?

We welcome applications from students interested in logistics. The faculty is not important because logistics can be developed very broadly. You can focus on eliminating logistical shortcomings or generating future solutions even when studying IT. We welcome applications from all active and eager young people who wish to bring change and new energy into logistics, even at a level we don’t yet expect.  I’ll paraphrase what Steve Jobs said: Create a product that people don’t even know they need yet!

The scholarships will be given to two students, but do you offer any opportunities for collaboration to other CF&S scholarship applicants? If so, what are they?

CF&S keeps an open mind. We will not only focus on the two selected winners or limit ourselves to specific funding. Together with the university, we want to participate in brainstorming, workshops, subject development and other exciting initiatives. In doing so, we’ll be able to keep ourselves fresh and youthful to keep moving forward. We also try to find internships for students where they could actually help us with our everyday operations. As a successful company, we want to give young people the opportunity to join our group’s companies so they could grow with us.

What would you like to say to students who are still hesitating as to whether to apply for a scholarship or not?

Dear students, do not hesitate! Logistics is an exciting field and it will never be gone from the world. You can do a lot in this field. The opportunity to generate fresh ideas and bring them to life is extremely exciting. Apply! Let’s make this field sexy, cool and environmentally sustainable. Let’s put a twinkle in our and the whole world’s eyes!

To sum up, tell a fun fact about CF&S Estonia.

CF&S itself is fun! Through and through, with its employees, customers and activities. There’s no doubt – CF&S is US! There is no need to highlight anything else except ourselves. Those who come work with us tend to stay for a long time. Nobody leaves for no reason or takes leaving lightly.
