Energy Technology master’s student Uku Maitsalu constructed a novel, fully functional sauna car that allows people to enjoy the sauna experience in any season and in any corner of the world.
Uku began the project as a hobby, and today the innovative engineering idea has become a working solution that cleverly combines knowledge of thermal energy, compact spatial design, and an energy-efficient heating system. The entire heating system—from thermal insulation and ventilation to the energy-efficient stove that keeps the temperature stable even while driving—was designed and built by Uku himself. In the future, he plans to add a water supply system to the car.
Uku has completed his bachelor’s studies in Thermal Engineering and is currently continuing his master’s studies in Energy Technology and Thermal Engineering, applying what he has learned in practical and creative projects. Uku Maitsalu is a second-generation thermal energy engineer, as his father, Ahti Maitsalu, also graduated in industrial heat engineering and later founded Ecopoint, a company specializing in the production of heat substations.
