Maciej Sibiński is a professor at the Institute of Materials and Environmental Technology from August 1st.

Please introduce yourself.
I’m a scientist with over a twenty-five year career dedicated directly to the development of photovoltaic technology and applications. I graduated in Poland, but my professional activities were connected with several European countries and universities. I consider myself an active person, ready for new challenges, which in my opinion always deliver the best opportunities for further development.
What kind of knowledge and experience do you bring to TalTech?
To TalTech I would like to bring not only the ideas connected to the technological processes and characterization of thin film inorganic photovoltaics (including building integrated PV), but also my experience from practical implementation of PV installation. During my work I cooperated with several private companies and local government within the projects of designing, constructing and exploitation of various types of solar installation. Apart from this I would like to share my experience in the field of grant preparation and realization processes.
What are your goals as a professor at TalTech?
I understand my goals as the facilitation of more dynamic growth of Department of Materials and Environmental Technology by propositions of the new research topics, international projects and the amelioration of cooperation with industry. Additionally, my role is to inspire and motivate these ambitious researchers for higher professional activity and acquirement of new competencies. Moreover, I shall supervise new PhD topics in the future (actually one position is just proposed).
One surprise that you have had within your time at TalTech?
The most surprising thing experienced so far is the very open structure of TalTech, with young and positive-minded personnel, modern outlook and fast decision-making process. This is a great advantage, which I would like to exploit intensively in the near future.
