Tallinn University of Technology

You can now find a wide selection of technical and scientific literature in MIRKO with home or parcel machine delivery. Together with the collections of other Estonian libraries, MIRKO already has 2.2 million printed books on its shelves.

“We are glad that joining the MIRKO paper book lending environment allows us to bring scientific and technical literature to even more people,” said Maris Nool, Head of TalTech Library’s Services Centre. “Readers have already discovered literature in our university’s fields of study — for example, the Mechanical Engineer's Handbook and a textbook of mechatronics components have been borrowed,” she added.

Opened in September 2022, My Library (MIRKO) is a common bookshelf of Estonian libraries, from where you can order up to 5 books for 21 days to the nearest parcel machine or by courier. Parcel shipping costs are paid by the reader. When the deadline arrives, it is possible to extend the order up to two times. In addition to paper books, MIRKO allows you to borrow e-publications: e-books, magazines, and audio books.

TalTech Library joined the system primarily with its paper collections and fiction collection. Newer scientific literature in open shelves can be found in the e-catalogue ESTER or browsed in the library. TalTech Library also offers the possibility to conveniently order the desired book to the nearest parcel machine or pick up the book from the book locker, which is located by the main entrance of the building at Akadeemia tee 1. The PRIMO portal brings together thousands of e-books and e-journals of the library and enables a joint search. University members can also read e-publications via remote access outside the university and library network.
