Tallinn University of Technology

The TalTech Rector's Cup is here again after a highly successful opening season. As usual, the season kicks off with a pentathlon of student organizations on September 8th. For everyone else, the season opens on September 20th with the TalTech Relay Race on the International Day of University Sports (IDUS).  Juulius' Disciples, the organizers of the competition series, have made the decision to implement changes both in the points system and in the total number of stages.

As previously mentioned, the opening season of the Rector's Cup was very successful among students, employees, and alumni alike. The high participation of employees and alumni was facilitated by the fact that the stages were all organized at times that allowed members of the university community who are working to also participate.

Changes in the competition series and points system

Last year, a total of 12 different Rector's Cup stages took place. Since it was a trial year, the organizers took on a slightly larger load to test as many different stages as possible. This season, it was decided to hold 10 different stages during the academic year. The stages for the first half of the year are already set:

  • Organization Pentathlon on September 8
  • Relay Race on September 20
  • Night Blind Volleyball in October 13
  • Night Basketball in October 14
  • Quiz in November 14
  • Longero Pong in December

Changes to the points system

The points system from last season combined activity and competition points, and the same approach will be used this season as well. The change will occur in the distribution of competition points to increase the significance of sports results.

Last season, competition points were distributed as follows:

1st place - 120 points

2nd place - 100 points

3rd place - 80 points

4th place - 70 points

5th place - 60 points

This season, competition points will be distributed as follows:

1st place - 240 points

2nd place - 200 points

3rd place - 160 points

4th place - 140 points

5th place - 120 points

Activity points will be distributed based on the same principle as last year - the smallest faculty will receive the most points per participant based on a coefficient, and the largest faculty will receive the least. Coefficients will be determined in November 2023 when this academic year's statistics become available.

Wishing you a great start to the new Rector's Cup season, and see you in September!
