The SmartWaste project, led by TalTech's Department of Business Administration Prof. Wolfgang Gerstlberger, will set up a network to provide information to waste collection service companies to optimise routes by emptying only containers that are full to a certain extent. It will be an Internet of Bins (IoB) based system, including data hardware to detect and collect data on bin fullness.

Dedicated researchers and partner cities are now working together to refine the solution concept and development plan, and to engage with potential customers to map their needs and opportunities. By 22 August, the teams will have to submit final pilot project plans.
