On June 1st, International Service Design Day is celebrated. For the 6th time in Estonia, the Service Design Day conference is organized to mark this occasion. This year's event focuses on simplification, which in the era of information overload and abundance of choices, has become the primary competitive advantage for customer-centric companies.

Throughout the day, we will hear real-life case studies on how to create simplification with the help of service design.

Internationally recognized experts will share their experiences at the event, including Lisa Lindström, Global Innovation and User Experience Design Lead and Partner at EY Doberman; program manager Ulla Jones, Service Design Lead at Posti Group; Sayali Bharambe, Service Designer at Deutsche Telekom; and Margus Simson, Chief Digital Officer & Member of the Board at Komerční Banka.

"There is enough complexity in the world, adding more will not produce value for the customer. Studies have shown that customers are willing to pay more for simpler products and services. In addition, developing and managing such solutions is often cheaper for the company itself," emphasized Jana Kukk, Senior Lecturer at TalTech and founder of Rethink. "To achieve radical simplification and increase value, it is important to understand customers and to be prepared to change more than just the superficial part of the service within the organization," she added.

"When thinking about simplification, one must agree with Antoine de Saint-Exupery, who stated that perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away," said Margus Veimann, Service Designer at the National Library of Estonia. "I believe design operates similarly, with a key value being the simplification of complex systems and processes in both the private and public sectors. Engaging the users and understanding their real problems is a key to the success of clear and intuitive design solutions," emphasized Veimann. "To achieve this, one must step out of their comfort zone and truly step into the user's shoes and dare to ask 'what if...'."

The conference is led by TalTech's Service Design Laboratory d.Lab, the National Library of Estonia (RaRa), consulting firm EY Baltics, and the strategic design agency Rethink. The Estonian Service Design Day is taking place for the sixth time. The Service Design Day conference will be held on May 31st at T1 Cinnamon IMAX cinema and for the first time will be conducted in English.
