Sven Illing will take up the post of Vice-Rector for Entrepreneurship in the new Rectorate of Tallinn University of Technology starting its work on 1 September. He is known as a mentor and investor of numerous startups and knowledge-intensive companies.

TalTech's new rector Tiit Land confirmed that Sven Illing would start his work in the post of the Vice-Rector for Entrepreneurship in the composition of the Rectorate on 1 September. Tiit Land said, "I decided to establish the post of the Vice-Rector for Entrepreneurship in order to develop systematically and comprehensively entrepreneurship in cooperation with the Vice-Rector for Research and the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and link it more to research and development and studies."

"Together with the new Rectorate, I would like to contribute to translating research efforts into economic gains and to fostering entrepreneurship among researchers and students. The aim is to enhance TalTech's support in making Estonian companies more high-tech and in developing more complex products and services," Sven Illing said.

Sven Illing is an adviser and investor of startups; he is a co-founder of startup accelerators GameFounders and Buildit. He has worked as the Deputy Mayor at the City Government of Tartu, Director of Development of Tartu Science Park and is a co-founder of a software company.

Sven holds an MSc in Management of Technology and Innovation from Manchester Business School and he has complemented his education at the London School of Economics and Political Science and Università Bocconi. He defended his Bachelor's degree at the University of Tartu. His hobbies include mountain climbing and endurance sports.

Professor Maarja Kruusmaa will start her term of office as Vice-Rector for Research and Professor Hendrik Voll will continue as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs in the composition of the new Rectorate starting its work on 1 September.
