At the ceremony of the 101st anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, TalTech recognised the best researchers, lecturers and support staff in 2018 and noted the best authors of research articles and students.

TalTech researcher of the year in 2018 is Professor Tõnis Timmusk, School of Science: Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology: Division of Gene Technology, and the junior researcher of the year in 2018 is Professor Vasileios Kostakis, School of Business and Governance: Ragnar Nurkse Department of Innovation and Governance.

The student activity of the year 2018 is TalTech's Christmas party, performed by the Student Councils of the School of Information Technologies, the School of Engineering, the School of Business and Governancethe School of Science, and TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy;

The sports activity of the year 2018 is the TalTech Basketball Team’s 3rd place in the European Student Championships.

TalTech’s Cultural Activities of the year 2018 are:

  • TalTech Brass Band – for the first place in the higher category of the state brass band competition “Turniir 2018”; effective organisation of the concert performance “My Estonia” in Tallinn, Tartu and Viljandi in spring 2018; and active help in repairing and designing new practice space in Tõnismäe.
  •  TalTech Academic Female Choir – for the 2nd place in category A at VII singing competition for female and girls' choir; for the participation in the performance of C. Orff's cantata “Carmina Burana” in the Baltic Student Song Festival Gaudeamus; and for the participation in TalTech 100th anniversary rock opera at the campus.
