This is one of the world’s most influential and closely followed university rankings, assessing more than 1,500 higher education institutions from 106 countries and territories this year.

TalTech’s rise continues the positive trend of recent years. While the university was ranked in the 751–800 range in 2022, its position has improved steadily in subsequent years. Last year TalTech was ranked 635th, and in the latest ranking it has reached 600th place.

The QS World University Rankings evaluate universities based on several indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, international collaboration, learning experience, and sustainability. The most heavily weighted factors are academic reputation and citations per faculty, which together account for half of a university’s overall score.

“We can be proud that, in one of QS’s key indicators—citations per academic staff member—we rank first in Estonia. This indicator reflects our researchers’ publications in high-level scientific journals, strong international collaboration, and the broad readership of our research. For nearly a decade, we have taken decisive steps to strengthen our research capacity, and it is now clearly evident that these efforts have paid off,” said Tiit Land, Rector of Tallinn University of Technology.

This year’s top three universities in the QS World University Rankings are the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, and Imperial College London.
