The building at Akadeemia tee 11/2 and Academic Hostel, located at the corner of Akadeemia tee and Raja Street in Tallinn, have undergone extensive renovation to ensure that the quality of the buildings and the living conditions meet students’ expectations.

As demand among students for single rooms and greater privacy has increased, the layout of the student residence was also redesigned during the renovation. All twin rooms were converted into single rooms. Each apartment has two rooms whose residents share a kitchen, toilet and shower.
“Students’ expectations of their living environment have risen year by year. It is no longer enough for a dormitory simply to offer affordable and practical accommodation – today’s students expect a modern, comfortable and energy-efficient home. We have to recognise that accommodation on the university campus competes with newly built apartments and rental developments and must offer a credible alternative,” said Jaak Kääp, Chairman of the Management Board of Student Campus.
Helen Järva of Student Campus added: “A modern living environment and energy efficiency are becoming increasingly important when students choose where to live. Combined with a competitive price and high-quality customer service, we hope that the students who have just moved in will be pleased with the result.”
TalTech Director for Administration Tea Trahov emphasised that modernising the dormitories is important to the university: “Students deserve a comfortable and modern home where they can enjoy living and studying right here on campus. When living conditions are good and costs are both predictable and low, student life becomes much more enjoyable.”
Both buildings are only a five-minute walk from the university’s academic buildings. The dormitory accommodates 120 students, while the hostel has 212 beds.
The second renovated building is home to Academic Hostel, which provides short-term accommodation for Erasmus programme students, TalTech guests, academic staff, local business clients and tourists.
Rent is fixed in both buildings and includes utility costs. This makes it easier for students to plan their monthly expenses and helps them avoid unexpected additional costs. Free Wi-Fi, car parking, bicycle and motorcycle parking, and 24-hour security are also included in the price.
As part of the renovation, both buildings received a range of modern, energy-efficient solutions. Solar panels were installed on the roofs and gable walls to generate electricity. The buildings also feature attractive roof terraces and are surrounded by inviting recreational and outdoor areas, creating a comfortable and welcoming living environment for students.
