On the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, President Alar Karis will be awarding state decorations to 151 people, including four outstanding experts in their fields from Tallinn University of Technology.

Decorations for services rendered to Estonia are to be awarded to the following people: Riina Aav, professor of analytical chemistry and expert on green chemistry and the circular economy; Jarek Kurnitski, academic and professor of energy efficiency and indoor climate in buildings; Professor Peeter Ross, a radiologist, the founder of the e-health Master’s programme, one of the leading lights of the Estonian health information system and patient portal digilugu.ee and an internationally recognised e-health expert; and Mare Roosileht, the director of Virumaa College, a true patriot of Ida-Viru County and advocate of educational life.

Kurnitski is to be awarded the Order of the White Star III class and Aav, Roosileht and Ross the Order of the White Star IV class.

In a recent interview with ERR, Kurnitski admitted that it was gratifying to receive such recognition. “My work is very much about getting homes and workplaces in order and creating a good indoor climate in a way that saves energy and keeps energy costs down,” he explained. “Doing so will make it possible to meet all of the country’s climate and energy policy objectives as well. In that respect I’m very happy that my work has been recognised.”

Congratulations to them all!
