From 3–7 November, the traditional Thesis Week takes place at TalTech Library, helping students prepare for writing their thesis. Each day offers different training sessions, both online and on-site.
Subject librarians will teach how to find reliable sources, read scientific literature effectively, cite correctly, and use artificial intelligence tools for searching information. In addition, guest lecturers will share their experiences and practical tips for conducting research.
Throughout the week, students can focus on developing different research skills. On Monday, participants learn how to use the TalTech library search portal Primo, the Estonian online catalogue ESTER, and the database of Estonian standards to find reliable sources for their thesis.
Tuesday’s sessions discuss how to identify scholarly journals and articles and use reference management tools, while the Manager of TalTech Startup Centre, Rasmus Kalep, shares his personal experience with writing a master’s thesis.
On Wednesday, the focus shifts to reading scientific articles and conducting effective searches, including English-language workshops that introduce the possibilities of Scopus AI. In addition, Janika Leoste, Associate Professor at the IT College, will lead a Zoom workshop on how to create your own AI assistant to support the thesis-writing process.
Thursday covers effective information searching and organizing research sources with Zotero, making the thesis-writing process smoother and more structured.
On Friday, students learn about the numeric citation style, and the CAS SciFinder representative in Estonia, Veli-Pekka Hyttinen, conducts a webinar for chemistry and biotechnology students on how to use SciFinder to support research. The week concludes with a session on efficient search strategies in research databases.
Thesis Week is a great opportunity to gain practical tips and support for both first-year students and those already nearing the finish line. We hope that this week of workshops will help every student reach their final goal to complete the thesis.
