TalTech will organise a recognised scientific conference „Futureproofing Engineering Education for Global Responsibility“, taking place already this September.
It is a high-level scientific conference of the International Society for Engineering Pedagogy IGIP. Its peer-reviewed articles are published by Springer, a publisher in Switzerland, and cited by the world's leading scientific information databases Scopus and Web of Science. 296 scientific articles, whose authors represent technical universities of 51 countries, have been accepted for the conference.
According to Tiia Rüütmann, president of the IGIP, organising the conference at TalTech contributes to modern teaching and learning in the field of engineering and is directly related to the goals of the Engineering Academy established last year. "The participants will get an overview of the best practices of other countries in curriculum development, STEM didactics and study support with the aim of increasing interest in the field of engineering and reducing student dropout," explained Rüütmann.
On the day of the pre-conference, September 24, there will be workshops by internationally recognised professors. Registration is open in the training calendar on the TalTech intranet. The conference is about STEM (i.e. natural and exact sciences and technology) teaching and learning, STEM didactics, new methodologies, AI, modern technology, lifelong learning, ethics, engineering education, green revolution, problem-based learning, etc. Both special and parallel sessions will be held on these topics (see the conference topics on the website).
The plenary sessions will feature internationally recognized key speakers: Professors Torsten Fransson (KTH, Sweden), Dana Dobrovskà (CTU, Czech Republic), Karin Wolff (Stellenbosch University, South Africa), Michael Milligan (ABET, USA), Uriel Cukierman (UTN, Argentina) and Raivo Sell (TalTech).
There will be a panel discussion on the future of engineering education and an IGIP round table on the development of the pedagogical curriculum for STEM teacher training. The conference will also include the presidents of ASEE, IEEE-ES and IELA as well as the ABET.
TalTech employees can attend the conference at a discounted price.
The conference will take place from 24 to 27 September 2024 at Tallinn University of Technology.
The conference corresponds to ETIS classification 3.1
