A total of 451 people responded during the month, 28.6% of whom were bachelor's level students at TalTech. 27 visitors to the EMERA branch library also responded, and the highest number of respondents came from the School of Business and Economics. The questionnaire was open from 24 March to 24 April.
On average, the respondents visit the library once a week or once a month, mainly to borrow books but also to work in the library’s reading areas and individual and group study rooms. The databases provided by the library are usually used once a month, and the respondents prefer to use study material uploaded in Moodle in their daily studies and work. Most requested library trainings are those introducing artificial intelligence tools and citation styles and reference management software.
People are very satisfied or usually satisfied with the services offered by the library, with a total of 98% of respondents giving this assessment. The respondents are somewhat dissatisfied that some books can only be used in the library and with the fact that there are not enough group study rooms, and that the technical equipment provided in the rooms does not meet today’s needs. Some respondents express their concern regarding the library’s indoor climate (temperature, light, noise), and it is noted that the individual study rooms and furniture in the reading areas could be better.
Most suggestions for changes were made regarding the group and individual study rooms – there should be more of them, they should be larger/smaller, with better furniture and lighting, more soundproof, and reserving a room could be easier. The respondents also wish that the library were open on Sundays and that there were more water dispensers on the floors.
We are grateful to all respondents and appreciate all suggestions and comments – your contribution is particularly important in developing library services.
There were 288 respondents who wanted to participate in the bookstore gift card prize draw. Fortuna chose the respondents number 56, 89, and 203 as the winners. We will contact the winners directly.
A more thorough analysis of the survey will be completed in May, based on which we will try to implement the suggestions for improvement in the library.
