Changes in applying for smart specialisation scholarships

The students enrolled in the academic year 2020/2021 and studying in the study programmes EAKI02 Indoor Climate in Buildings and Water Engineering, EDKR16 Chemical Technology, EDTR17 Telematics and Smart Systems and SDSR10 Marine Engineering cannot apply for a smart specialisation scholarship, because the nominal duration of studies of these study programmes exceeds the the eligibility period of the scholarship.

The terms and conditions for paying smart specialisation scholarships at the I and II level of higher education were approved by Directive No 441 of 24 November 2015 of the Minister of Education and Research "Establishing the terms and conditions for granting aid for the implementation of the action "Higher education specialisation scholarships in smart specialisation growth areas". In accordance with the conditions laid down for the grant of the scholarship, the eligibility period is from 1 August 2015 to 31 October 2023. This means that the corresponding scholarships are paid only during this period. The annex to the abovementioned directive sets out the general framework conditions and objectives of the measure. The directive is accompanied by an explanatory memorandum, which lays down that funding is terminated depending on the nominal duration of the study programme. Thsi means that the nominal duration of the study programme must fit within the eligibility period of the action. This allows the student to have legitimate expectations to assume that he/she, when enrolled to the study programme, will receive specialisation scholarship until the end of the nominal duration of his/her study programme. This principle is underpinned by the goal of the measure, which is to motivate young people to study the areas of priority for entrepreneurship and for the state, complete successfully their full-time studies in their chosen field of study and graduate within the nominal duration of studies.
