Studying in Tallinn University of Technology as a visiting student

There is an agreement between six Estonian universities (Tallinn University of Technology, Tallinn University, University of Tartu, Estonian University of Life Sciences, Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Estonian Academy of Arts) which determines that students can study as a visiting student in another university, where the level of study is mutually acceptable. Based on the Visiting Student Application, studying in Tallinn University of Technology as a visiting student for students from above listed universities is free of charge. 

During the academic year of 2024/2025 it is also possible for the students of TTK UAS (Tallinna Tehnikakõrgkool) to study free of charge at TalTech (except in the School of Business and Governance) as a visiting student. Taking the courses from the School of Business and Governance is possible through TalTech Open University, while paying tuition fee. Please kindly note that students of TTK UAS are allowed to take courses from bachelor level only.

Students of other Estonian universities (other than the six above mentioned universities) can study in Tallinn University of Technology through TalTech Open University, while paying tuition fee. 

NB! Please kindly note that it is not possible to study Estonian language or other foreign languages free of charge in Tallinn University of Technology. In case there are available seats in the study group, you can study foreign languages through TalTech Open University, while paying tuition fee.

How to come to Tallinn University of Technology as a visiting student

Visiting student, who has a Visiting Student Application from home university, should co-ordinate the participation with the lecturer (only needed in case the subject has a prerequisite subject or there is a restriction to the size of the audience). Visiting Student Application must be presented to TalTech Office of Academic Affairs (Ehitajate tee 5, room U02-201), where the person will be registrated for one semester as a TalTech visiting student. If possible, please send the digitally signed document (.bdoc or .asice format) by e-mail to riina.potter@taltech.ee.

NB! To study at TalTech as a visiting student in Academic Year 2024/2025 Autumn semester, the students must present their Visiting Student Application by September 2, 2024 at 17.00 the latest. Students will be registered as visiting students latest by September 5 at 17.00.

  • Tallinn University of Technology reserves the right to give preference to its students in case there are limited number of seats available in the study group.

Recognition of the subjects

The subjects the visiting student wants to study at Tallinn University of Technology must be declared (i.e registrated to the subject) in TalTech Study Information System (OIS) the latest on the date set in the Academic calendar. Visiting student can enter OIS with Estonian ID-card. In case the student does not have Estonian ID-card or in case of other difficulties with entering OIS, please contact TalTech Information Technology Service (Akadeemia tee 3, room SOC-132). 

Regarding academical side, visiting student has all the rights and liabilities as the regular TalTech students. 

After the study period has ended the Deans's Office will provide the visiting student with the Transcript of Records or if requested, they will send it to the home university.
