Tallinn University of Technology

MISSION

Lab2Life aims to inform and inspire the next generation of researchers to bring their scientific discoveries beyond the lab and into real-world impact. Too often, research results remain within university walls instead of reaching society where they can make a difference. Through Lab2Life, we highlight the possibilities and opportunities available within the TalTech context, while sharing insights and stories from practitioners and researchers who have successfully made the transition from lab to life. The initiative is especially designed for PhD students and young researchers eager to turn their research into meaningful innovation.

PROGRAM

Lab2Life Program Sessions

Session 1:

Date: November 25, 2025

Workshop Description:

The workshop focused on two main topics: the opportunities for research commercialization and planning research impact. As an inspirational speaker, professor Petri-Jaan Lahtvee shared his experience in founding the company Äio and provided a vivid example of how academic research can make its way into the real world.
Following questions were addressed in specific:

  • What is the concept of impact, different ways of generating it
  • How to recognize opportunities and validate research topics targeted at practical output
  • What is Technology Readiness Level (TRL), KTH IRL model
  • How to visually map your research to highlight its goals and impact pathways
  • Why and how to submit an invention disclosure.

Every session is interactive and aims to provide knowledge and inspiration for exploring the commercialization potential of your research.
The workshop series will be led by the TalTech Technology Transfer Office team and will be held in English.
