About the Doctoral Students' Association (DoKo)
PURPOSE
To promote the well-being of doctoral students at the university and to popularize being a young researcher in Estonia.
Mission
The Doctoral Students' Association, or DoKo, was created with the aim of:
- represent the views of doctoral students in university decision-making bodies
- to enable and enhance the networking and socialization of the young scientific community, to be a central place in resolving concerns
- to popularize being a doctoral student in Estonia
The role of a doctoral student is different from that of a regular student or other academic staff. DoKo is an organization made up of doctoral students and therefore our own face, where we can turn with our concerns and thoughts. In both Estonian and English!
DoKo was established in the fall of 2023 and its goal is to improve the quality of doctoral studies by contributing to the well-being of doctoral students. With academic representation, we offer doctoral students the opportunity to participate in university life and express their views. This increases their connection to their university, offers an opportunity to contribute and feel part of the university.
Socially, we offer doctoral students the opportunity to network and find people in the same role, experiencing the same things. This undoubtedly reduces social isolation, which is a danger for doctoral students, especially foreign doctoral students, and also creates a platform for cross-disciplinary collaborations in the future through the friends-acquaintances-colleagues they have acquired.
Finally, we are a central place to share information and experiences about the opportunities offered to doctoral students – competitions, scholarships, projects, etc. Word of mouth and organizational memory can contribute to the more active participation of our doctoral students in both local and international projects.
All of this will result in a smoother, more efficient, and more meaningful doctoral study period for both local and international doctoral students, and the quality of doctoral studies at the university will increase.

YOUR VOICE MATTERS: HELP SHAPE THE PHD JOURNEY AT TALTECH!
DoKo, the PhD student organization at TalTech, conducts a survey to better understand the challenges and needs of our doctoral community. Whether you are in your first year or preparing to graduate, your feedback will help us design events, initiatives, and support systems that truly reflect what PhD students need. The survey is anonymous and takes only a few minutes to complete.
