COSPACT - NORDIC-BALTIC CO-SIMULATION PLATFORM TOWARDS INCREASING THE STABILITY OF AC/DC TRANSMISSION GRIDS
Duration: 01.10.2020 – 31.12.2023
PROJECT ETISES
COSPACT
The objective of this project is to form a Nordic-Baltic cooperation and simulation platform for information exchange and system analysis and provide mobility support for perspective MSc and PhD students, and researchers to increase the knowledge on future power system development and control. The results of the project will be beneficial to researchers, utility and industry engineers, for management persons and for policy makers. The topics covered in the project, but not limited to, are related to transmission system expansion planning, flexible operation of grid-connected microgrids using energy storage option, wide-area control and protection possibilities, real-time modelling and control, system island operation, system synchronization, cyber-physical energy systems, power system stability, integration of wind energy resources, an information exchange platform for enabling ancillary services from distributed energy resources, advanced visualization of voltage stability limit and system protection based on the real-time measurement and data-driven methods for real-time voltage stability assessment.
Objectives of the project are:
- Promote holistic and innovative approaches in stability control and analysis by strengthening the scientific basis and fostering networking and mutual communication.
- To establish a cross-projects co-operation through and enable a tool for further discussion and communication of the COSPACT members and Nordic-Baltic R&D community.
- Increase the technical and scientific competence of network participants though processes of knowledge co-production.
- To improve the knowledge sharing between universities and industry/utilities.
- Produce new partnerships, exchange opportunities, and collaborations between researchers in Nordic-Baltic region.
- Identify and follow up specific funding avenues for common projects, while focusing on cross-cutting funding streams allocated to projects concerned with renewable integration, climate change, and energy efficiency.
- Generate leadership opportunities for Early Career Investigators (ECIs) and participants.
- Promote power system research and development in Nordic-Baltic region.
- Support Baltic region governmental initiative to collaborate and support power system research and networking.
