Admissions
Students for TalTech international study programmes are admitted based on the admission threshold. When applying for the BSc in Cyber Security Engineering, in-depth knowledge of the mathematics, programming and IT-related topics is beneficial but not essential.
Candidates whose application and documents successfully pass the preliminary evaluation will be given access to the online test. In order to pass the online test and qualify for the interview, an applicant has to earn at least 60 points in the test. Then the interview will be conducted and motivation letter will be evaluated. An applicant who receives at least 60 points for the online test and at least 60 points for the motivation letter and online interview is admitted to the study programme.
Admission under a special condition will be applied if the candidate proves the participation in the corresponding international competitions and Estonian olympiads and competitions determined by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. An applicant applying under a special condition receives the maximum admissions points and does not need to fulfill programme specific admission requirements apart from the secondary education requirement. Please read about the admission under a special condition here.
Please find the programme specific admission requirements below:
In order to qualify for the studies in Tallinn University of Technology an applicant has to have at least 60% of the highest possible CGPA. If the average grade for your secondary education qualification is below 60%, the requirement can be considered fulfilled if the applicant’s average grade from their higher education degree is at least 60% of the maximum possible grade. Note that this principle can be implemented only if the CGPA of your secondary education does not fall under 50%.
The test takes place in the system called TalTech Moodle and contains five exercises based on logic, algorithmic thinking and generally recognized basic mathematics at a typical international high school level. Calculation tasks in the test are somewhat similar to those that come with solving real complex security incidents. Therefore, they do not include so much of the complexity of mathematics as the logic and systemic thinking skills combined with mathematical calculations.
Candidate will have 5 hours to complete the test.
Grading scale: maximum 100, at least 60 points required to qualify for the interview.
Please include the following:
- Why are you interested in the field of information technology (IT), especially cyber security topics?
- Why did you choose Estonia and TalTech IT College for your future studies?
- Do you work? For how long and in which field? How your current work is related to IT and cyber security?
- Please mention the programming languages in which you have written at least 500 lines of code.
- Please mention the operating systems that you have experience with.
- Please describe your previous experience and competencies related to IT.
- List your achievements in other fields, especially participating in contests in mathematics, physics and IT-related topics.
- Please write about your interests and social activities (beyond IT and mathematics, physics).
NB! It is important to properly cite and reference any sources used in your motivation letter (quotations, publications, ideas etc. that are not your own). Additionally, AI-generated text is not acceptable as the purpose of the motivation letter is to show the applicant’s genuine motivation. Neglecting the aforementioned principles will result in the disqualification of your application.
