Guest talk "Access Control in Information Systems: Definitions, Strategies and Models" by Prof. Josef Küng, Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU), Austria

Friday, 31 March, 10:00-11:00, Room ICT-A1 or via MS Teams

Professor Josef Küng is one of the opponents of Rozha Kamal Ahmed, a PhD student at the Department of Software Science. Rozha Kamal Ahmed will defend her PhD thesis "Digital Transformation of Court Processes: Driving Forces, Success Factors, Regulations and Technology Acceptance" on 31 March at 15.00.

Abstract: Authorization and access control have been a topic of research for several decades. However, existing definitions are inconsistent and even contradicting each other. Furthermore, there are numerous access control models and even more have recently evolved to conform with the challenging requirements of resource protection. That makes it hard to classify the models and decide for an appropriate one satisfying security needs. This talk aims to guide through the plenty of access control models in the current state of the art and aims to shed light into the accumulation of terms, their meanings and how they are related.

The Speaker: Josef Küng is associate professor at the Institute of Application Oriented Knowledge Processing (FAW) at Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU), Austria. He holds a Ph.D. in Informatics and got his habilitation for Applied Computer Science there in 2000. His core competencies cover information systems, knowledge based systems, semantic technologies and data anonymity. Several times, Josef Küng was co-program-chair of the DEXA Conference (International Conference and on Database and Expert Systems Application), he was founding co-editor-in-chief of the Springer Journal on Transactions on Large-Scale Data- and Knowledge Centered Systems, supported the FDSE and ACOMP conference series for many years and has been manager of numerous successful research projects with partners from industry and academia.
