There’s been a buzz in the air, with people feeling confused, curious and anticipating the return of the “card shuffler". The answer is yes - it will! This time, it will take the form of the final 500 metres. This is your chance to help your school secure overall victory in the Rector’s Cup. The current close competition could still be turned around completely, but we need to gather as large a team as possible.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

In true TalTech fashion, the organising team has created a simple yet smart system that has also been used in previous Rector’s Cup stages. The results of the best female and best male from each school are combined and the winner is determined by their total score.

One of the main organisers, Tom, explains a possible scenario: “Let’s say a female runner from the School of Business and Governance wins the final 500 metres – the “card shuffler" distance – earning 350 points, while a male runner from the same school finishes fourth and earns 150 points. Their combined score would be 500 points. If this is the best result compared to the other schools, then the School of Business and Governance wins the “card shuffler" ranking and doubles the total points collected from this additional competition.”

This means that, even if the standings appear set before the race, a strong finish can transform the outcome: a powerful final sprint could propel your school to victory or re-establish their position in the competition.

Additionally, the final 500 metres will serve as a separate sprint competition. The fastest man and fastest woman in this segment will win a pair of brand-new Nike running shoes. So, gather your team, maintain your pace until the very end and give it your all – the final sprint could earn you valuable points and a new pair of trainers.

See you on the track on 29 May!
