Kersti-Liis Vimm, a Master’s student of food technology and development, was one of the students who seized the opportunity and applied for a EuroTeQ partner university course for the autumn semester. She chose a course offered by the Technical University of Denmark. She says it was an ideal opportunity to experience the university in a different way, especially at this time, when going abroad is often difficult.
Which course did you choose and why?
When I received an e-mail from TalTech about EuroTeQ, I took a quick look at the courses available and surprisingly found one that was in my field of study. It was the ‘Safety and Health Effects of Aquatic Foods’ course offered by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
This course was of interest to me because it is directly related to my master’s degree programme and covers a topic that is not offered by our university. My programme also does not offer any courses in English, so this was the perfect opportunity to practise my foreign language skills.
What are your impressions and experiences of the course so far?
Excellent! The Technical University of Denmark immediately sent me all the necessary information and gave me access to their systems. There have also been no problems with participating in the course – it is as smooth as taking a course at TalTech. The course consists of online lectures which are pre-recorded by the lecturer and sent to us weekly. Every Friday we have the opportunity to ask questions and complete exercises based on the previous week’s topic. There are two group assignments and the course ends with an oral examination. I must admit, it is somewhat difficult to plan my time to study all the necessary materials by the Q&A round on Friday, but so far I have managed.
Why do you recommend participating in EuroTeQ courses?
Participating in international studies is an ideal opportunity to experience the university in a different way, especially at this time, when going abroad is often difficult. It gives a good experience in English as well as new and exciting knowledge in one’s own field, which the home university may not offer.
Applying for EuroTeQ spring semester courses is open! Find a suitable course from the EuroTeQ course catalogue. It is possible to participate in BA, MA and PhD courses. EuroTeQ partner universities are the Technical University of Munich (Germany), Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands), Technical University of Denmark (Denmark), École Polytechnique (France), and Czech Technical University in Prague (Czech Republic).
