On 2 March, Rector of Tallinn University of Technology Tiit Land met with international students and employees from Ukraine to provide additional information on the decisions taken so far at the university and to hear what kind of help is still needed.
Tallinn University of Technology has decided that students from Ukraine will be exempt from tuition fees this semester. Estonian public universities are currently approving a proposal to exempt students from Ukraine from tuition fees also in the next academic year (2022/2023).
The university has established a scholarship fund to support both international students who are Ukrainian citizens and already studying at Tallinn University of Technology and those whose studies have been interrupted due to the Russian military attack and who want to continue their studies in TalTech’s study programmes. Anyone who wants can make a donation to the bank accounts of the foundation Development Fund of Tallinn University of Technology in SEB Bank and Swedbank by adding the keyword “Ukrainian students” on the details line; the university informed separately the alumni of this possibility.
The schools and departments of the university find out the specific concerns of Ukrainian students and staff and provide financial support if needed. The Office of Academic Affairs helps to resolve issues regarding academic leave and other special agreements.
Anyone who needs psychological help can contact the Student Counselling Centre of the Office of Academic Affairs or the Human Resources Office. Accommodation options have been found for those forced to leave Ukraine.
The university provides every possible support to Ukrainian students and staff. Relevant information is provided on the university’s external website at taltech.ee/ukraina and taltech/en/ukraine. All students and staff can submit their questions and proposals at ukraina@taltech.ee
