At the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology of Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), a new high-resolution liquid chromatography–quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer (Agilent Revident LC/QTOF-MS) has been in operation since February 20th, 2026. This advanced analytical instrument combines liquid chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry, enabling the separation, identification, and accurate mass determination of a wide range of chemical compounds in complex samples. The system enables a wide range of applications, including metabolomics, pharmaceutical and environmental analysis, characterization of natural products, impurity profiling, and non-target screening of unknown compounds. The instrument provides high mass accuracy and sensitive MS/MS capabilities, supporting both qualitative and quantitative analyses of small molecules.

At the Institute of Technology of University of Tartu (Nooruse 1, Tartu), a differential scanning calorimeter (TA Instruments, DSC 2500) has been in operation since January 22nd, 2026. This is a highly sensitive instrument that enables the determination of enthalpy changes of both various chemical compounds and macromolecules as a function of temperature or time. Depending on the object being measured, it is possible to determine, for example, melting behavior, solidification, crystallization, stability, polymorphism, miscibility, various phase transitions, reactivity, reaction and transition enthalpies, heat capacity, reaction kinetics, purity, and more. The measurement range is from −90 °C up to a maximum of 700 °C.
For more detailed information, please contact researcher Livia Matt at the Institute of Technology, University of Tartu.
