Tallinn University of Technology

Acoustics Laboratory

Overview

The Acoustics Laboratory is a laboratory of the TALTECH Institute of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, which mainly deals with experimental studies of the acoustic and vibration properties of materials and products. Both standard measurements and corresponding development work are carried out. A fairly large part of the research and development work is related to theoretical and practical studies of wave propagation. Cooperation is carried out with companies both in Estonia and abroad, as well as with other universities

Equipment and facilities

A suitable test stand is usually prepared for each scientific and applied research. For this purpose, the laboratory has enough different noise meters, data loggers and various sensors. The laboratory also has the ability to create the necessary measurement programs and methodologies.

Main areas of activity

• wave propagation in pipes and free space, development of attenuators

• room acoustics measurements and modeling

• determination of acoustic properties of materials

• vibration tests

Cooperation and projects

The Acoustics Laboratory cooperates with many industrial companies in Estonia and neighboring countries, has participated in international and Estonian research projects. If necessary, acute acoustic issues are commented on in the media.
