Autonomous vehicles laboratory
Overview
The Autonomous Vehicles (AV) Laboratory is part of the Autonomous Vehicles Research Group of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at TalTech and focuses on various experiments on autonomous vehicles, mobile robots and unmanned systems. The laboratory serves both research projects, business collaborations and student development projects.
Equipment and capabilities
The laboratory has the following equipment:
- Self-driving car v1.0 (IseAuto 1) – Self-driving minibus platform ver 1.0, developed in collaboration with Silberauto/AuVe Tech, ABB and TalTech.
- Self-driving car v2.0 (IseAuto 2) – new TalTech self-driving minibus platform
- UKU – outdoor universal mobile robot for experiments on different terrains (off-road)
- EV i-MiEV – Electric car Mitsubishi i-MiEV, equipped with lidar-camera-radar measuring devices, for mapping areas and creating point cloud maps
- Drones – Various drone platforms for mapping landscapes and creating digital twins.
Main areas of activity
- AV security verification and validation
- Urban and aerial mapping of urban areas and landscapes
- Creating digital twins of the environment and AVs for simulations on the CARLA platform
- AV experiments, testing and evaluating autonomous driving algorithms
- Support and conducting procedures for AV certification and exam preparation
- Creating and simulating HiL solutions for low-level vehicle control controllers on the Matlab/Simulink platform
- Cybersecurity, 5G, remote control, Human-Machine Interface, remote operation, etc. experiments
